Little Roots Nursery

My project focuses on providing children within the Edinburgh community with a nursery space that offers them the opportunity to grow and learn in a natural environment with access to a large outdoor space with fantastic views of wildlife. The Nursery would align with the Montessori method of education as opposed to the traditional model, this would accommodate for more play-based learning and is geared towards hands-on learning and developing real-world skills. A natural and stimulating environment for children to grow and learn.

Messy Play: Art can be an amazing tool for opening the opportunity for interaction between child and caregivers when we follow the child’s lead, it is useful for all the new textures and colours that wee ones can explore. By supporting creativity in a controlled environment, the child gets to take control of these experiences in a positive setting, and this sets them up for future learning.

Theatre and Music Circle: This area provides opportunities to explore music and performance, supporting creativity and encouraging their emerging individual personalities. Offering a space to build confidence and imagination as well as cognitive abilities.

Reception and Cloakroom: The main entrance into the nursery is welcoming and provides an area for children to keep outdoor jackets and shoes. The storage units are accessible by children to allow for independence where possible. The reception desk adds additional safety as children must be checked in and out of the nursery by a parent or guardian.
