The visual inspiration for my project was provided by my hearty interest in costume design and the films of Tim Burton. To create drawings in response to the films, I worked from a theme of graveyards and cemeteries, capturing their mood and atmosphere; focusing on interesting shapes seen in the mold, lichen and moss that grows on the stones throughout the seasons of the years, pre-designed motifs which are commonly seen on graves as decorations and attention to details like the pitting, scraps and cracks within the stones as they have aged.
My woven fabric collection was inspired by my sketchbook images and the disruption of traditional menswear fabric design techniques. I researched Scottish Estate Tweeds, such as gun club checks, glen checks and pinstripes, which I modified and manipulated using less traditional weave structures, colour combinations and textures to create my woven designs.
