This collection explores whether repurposing fashion waste that would otherwise end up in landfill, to create costumes that withhold both aesthetic design and performance durability is a feasible means of tackling the abundance of waste within both the costume and the fashion industry.
The costumes created for Rubber Chicken Theatre CIC's production of the Hunchback of Notre Dame contains only discarded garments that were donated to the project as they were deemed to be no longer of use for the original wearer due to damage, staining, or simply being 'out of style'.
All components such as zips, interlining and buttons were either taken from the garments also or deadstock.
