DESIGN FOR TEXTILES

The Botanic Gardens

My project is inspired by the botanic gardens, it is a mixture of digital print, screen print and embroidery and its for the interior market. I have taken a very illustrated approach as I feel more comfortable with that. It also fits into the quirkier market that I normally aim for.

This design is inspired by the statues that can be found at the botanic gardens. I drew the statues digitally and I used coloured pencils for the banana leaves. I printed this pattern on cotton satin as it is soft to touch, I designed this as bedding.

This design is inspired by the Peoples Palace glass house. I drew this digitally on illustrator. I used green for the background as it makes both the black and white lines stand out equally, it is also a trending colour just now in the interior market. I printed this on wexford linen.

The monstera leaves have been drawn using coloured pencil and the green houses have been drawn digitally but then screen printed using gold foil. This has been printed on cotton satin because it has a good drape as I was designing it as a curtain.

This design is based off a botanic garden that my grandparents used to take me to when I was a child that had reptiles at it. I have used wexford linen fabric for my cushion. I screen printed puff binder on it then attached my kumihimo cords that I made to look like snakes. I used green pigment for the piping.

This design has been printed on silk/viscose velvet so that I could use devore to burn away the cellulosic fibres leaving those parts transparent. I have used this design for a lamp so that the light bulb can be seen through it.
