The Forgotten

This Collection was inspired by the forgotten voices and faces of Britain’s black history and to bring to light the stories the education system has failed to teach us. Looking into key moments in British black history such as Dido Elizabeth Belle, Africa, and the West Indies during the world wars and the Windrush generation I took my inspiration for colours, silhouettes, and fabrication techniques from these topics. They helped fight our wars and took care of us, but we failed to do the same back throughout history and now we hide that shame by leaving out their history in our textbooks. Using deadstock and recyclable fabrics, 100% wool as well as second-hand buttons and bag straps I wanted to create this collection being kind to the planet but still show how important this topic is. Their history should not go forgotten any longer.

This is one of my research boards looking into the forgotten war effort and how there is official documents still around today detailing how black soldiers should not have the same war graves even though they were fighting for the British empire during the world wars.
