BA (HONS) DESIGN FOR TEXTILES

Coping with Life in a Pandemic"

A collection of 10 interior designed surface patterns that are inspired by the “stay at home” order during the coronavirus pandemic. Surrounded by comforting materials and lively colours, plants and florals from the home environment formed the basis of the sketchbook stage. Primarily using black fine liner pens, mark making techniques and irregular patterns were created to infill the space around or inside each drawing. WGSN trends were used to form a palette and Photoshop allowed colours to be added during the design development stage. Opinions from friends and family were key for the selection and editing of designs and were important for establishing the final collection. This theme was largely inspired by the previous semester which looked into microscopical sciences and Covid-19 in particular. The combination of science about viruses with the reflection of living in quarantine due to a pandemic is the main focus of this collection.

A drawing of flowers from my home, I used a combination of fine liner pens and oil pastels to create an exciting texture.

Magical Meadow' is my first large design in my collection. It features multiple drawings collaged fashionably to create a wonderful, mystical floral piece. This design would suit as a feature wallpaper in a home and I am very proud of this piece.

Avia Plasmatio' is my eighth design in my collection and is in the small category. I named this design after my Nana, as it was her flowers which she styled that I took inspiration from. 'Avia' means grandmother in Latin, and 'Plasmatio' means creation or to fashion.

This image features three of my designs in the small collection, visualised onto bags. From back to front, my designs are 'Vivid Botanics,' 'Avia Plasmatio,' and 'Pinky Promise.' I think all three work well amongst one another and they form a cute collection of bags which look realistic.

My visualisation of a bedding set with the design 'Magical Meadow.' I have enjoyed simulating my designs for my collection, replicating the folds of the fabric or the shadows from a light source has been a lot of fun and I do think they have each turned out extremely well.
