The visual starting point for my honours project 2 comes from a series of images which I have gathered by capturing natural shapes, patterns and textures from the beach. This semester I decided to create a digital sketchbook; therefore, all my sketchbook work was created through photoshop. I have taken inspiration from a variety of artists and their way of working. An example of this is Keith Haring, he creates layering through his work which I have recreated throughout my own work. Additionally, Gyorgy Kepes has inspired my black and white imagery and photography. As I adopted a monochromatic aspect to my project, I found his work to be very beneficial and intriguing.
My design process begins with creating monochromatic digital sketchbook pages capturing patterns and textures. Due to the graphic nature created throughout my sketchbook I have decided to use jacquard fabrics as my main samples, whilst exploring which colour ways are best suited to my selected market. Alongside my jacquard fabrics, I have created some dobby samples which are less dramatic and compliment my jacquard fabrics. This works well as they are coordinating fabrics.
My market audience is bespoke hotels, bars and restaurants in the luxury market, for example Malmaison. I am creating fabrics which are eye catching and stand out to their customers. In addition to the premium hospitality industry, my collection is also suitable for upper class individuals who are looking for bespoke statement pieces for their home.
