The Rooted Collection

My collection is an Autumn Winter Pret-a-Porter Collection. I am Moroccan and German and wanted to embrace my roots in this collection. I set out to appreciate my heritage and show that diversity can lead to new creative fusions.
The collection takes inspiration from Moroccan craft and patterns, that have been translated into fabric designs, as handcrafted details and craft are highly valued in Morocco, I valued the material making. The fabric colour palette was created with Marrakesh’s textures colours and warmth in mind.
The collection is made for people that want to show their heritage, and for people that want to share it with us.

Concept & Inspiration The collection shows my heritages. On one side it embraces the colours, patterns, and warmth of Marrakesh. On the other side, the silhouette is inspired by pictures of relatives from 1940-1950s Germany. The collection is embracing these different heritages and illustrates my Roots.

Line Up

The Mosaic Blouse
The wool blouse is shaped into an intricate star shape made by pleats. These pleats are a reimagining of traditional Islamic geometric patterns, that can be found everywhere in morocco, from tiles, to dishes to mashrabiyas, enclosed patterned windows.

The Dress Dromedar and the Rooted Top and Skirt
The dress has a classic shape and is pleated, with the pleats distorting the dromedary print. The Top and Skirt are reversible and show the Root Print of the collection on one fabric side. The garments can be worn individually.

The Jacket Fatna
The jacket is made from leather scraps and second-hand yarn and does not include new materials. The cuffs are inspired by Moroccan knotted rugs, a technique my grandmother Fatna has learned. I used punch embroidery to resemble that heritage.
