BA (HONS) INTERIOR DESIGN

Breath Community

My design for this project was influenced by several factors, one of them was the increment of “Domestic Abuse Victims” during the Covid19 pandemic lock down; another factor was my previous research studies about the positive influence of some type of housing like Co-housing ,where several spaces are shared, creating a social interrelation beneficial for individuals suffering from isolation or depression, like the Victims of Domestic Violence.
My personal passion for Nature took me to study its healing effects in several psychological issues; depression, stress, PTSD all of them associate with cases of domestic abuse.
Considering all the factors and taking into account the needs of the victims, I designed “Breath Community” a secure, relaxing space, with residences , where to live and start the healing process.
Breath community also include spaces like a Café, Studios, Youth Club to create a link with the rest of the society.

The garden/roof structure wraps up the residential area, creating a secure space. The shapes forming this structure/ façade were inspired by the pattern of a leaf under the microscope, they play with the light creating a dance of shades along the day. This is a place to relax.

The Café retains the stone walls from the original building, with the industrial feeling provided by the black steal beams. The pattern from the garden façade is also present at the Café together with other elements nature inspired like the tree columns. The plants around, invite Nature” in”.
