BA (HONS) INTERIOR DESIGN

Midlothian Intermediate Care

My Project I decided to design an intermediate care home. The inspiration for my design came after my experience in working as a locum in a care home during the pandemic.
I witnessed many residents struggle with the isolation from their families. Having no or very little contact impacted on their health and wellbeing. Within my design, I feel I have achieved what I set out to. I have made the rooms larger with an en-suite. The use of equipment can be used safely without any obstructions and allow the service user the freedom to move around in a safe environment. Natural Light will flood the building due to the input of large windows and along with the use of natural materials and plants have brought the outside inside. A visitor’s room will allow safe visits from families during this pandemic and any other that may occur in the future.

This Visitors room is purpose build with the current pandemic in mind. It was essential that this room is air-tight not to allow the spread of infection to escape into the home.

The use of modern peripheral and audio equipment allow the residents to communicate without any barriers.

This is the clients bedroom I thought this was a very important part of the building due to clients having to isolate in these current circumstances due to covid-19.
