BA (HONS) DESIGN FOR TEXTILES

"Dealan-de"

My honours project is a print interior design collection titled “Dealan-de” (meaning Butterfly in Scottish Gaelic). The collection was inspired by species of Scottish butterflies and archival Entomology Scientific Prints and Illustrations. The aim of my project was to design a collection of print designs intended for wallpaper and surface pattern capturing hand drawn studies of Species of Butterflies and the botanical habitat that they live in. I have a forever love for historical prints and I’ve found through museum archival collections very inspirational. I wanted to celebrate the traditional and scientific techniques in my project and mirror these aspects within my own designs, however, I also wanted to challenge the boundaries and elevate them with a modern approach with my own handwriting style.
